How We Got Here In 1987, current president Irwin Myers was the Director of the Credit Counseling Center- a government agency that helped Chicago residents with their money management problems. Wanting to reach more people with his agency’s consumer education workshops, he learned video production and produced three, 30-minute videos that were viewed by thousands of people on cable TV. One day, Irwin met his wife’s boss, who upon learning that he did videography, asked him to produce several videos for his association management company. Wanting to enter the private sector, Irwin said yes and Video One started that day! Since then, Video One Productions has evolved into one of Chicago’s premier video production companies.

Video production by others can inspire and teach you many lessons. Last week I touched upon this, but here’s more about looking at other videos to get ideas for yours. Watch a bunch of other people’s videos and decide what elements you might want to include in yours. Do they use onscreen talent or voice over narration? Do they use professional actors or people from their own company? This is sometimes difficult to discern, but if you can get away with using people from your own company, do it. Just make sure they sign a release. Also make sure that they are stable. Seriously. We had to produce another video for someone because the ‘star’ of their previous video went ‘whacko’ and they didn’t want this person to in any way represent their company.

By creating a sitemap for your videos, you’re allowing search engines to direct visitors to your site instead of directing them to YouTube or similar platforms.

There are two ways you can create a sitemap. You can either use a sitemap generator tool or create it yourself.

If you’re looking for a way to make your video shorter, why not try a time lapse? It’s not a solution for every videographer problem, of course, but if you want to speed up a slow process it’s a quick, easy fix. If you’re an amateur videographer your video software should be able to do it easily, and of course a professional will have no problem with a time lapse. Some video cameras even have a time lapse function.

If there is one thing that your video editing expert can help you with, it is in ensuring compatibility between your video format and the player or media that you will use. This is very important because the technologies that are used in video production are advancing at a rapid pace. Imagine if you wanted to distribute your program in VHS format. You obviously would find it difficult to find enough people who still have VHS players to even see the program. In addition, people would be quite suspect of your using such an antiquated format.
